Overview

A fixed-scope engagement for an early-stage startup building an all-in-one event marketplace that connects vendors, event planners and customers on a single platform. The client came with an idea and a product vision; XLORIT was the first and only team, building the entire product from scratch.

Challenge

An AI-first marketplace where the AI had to actually work, not just exist

Existing event platforms offered listings. None offered a unified marketplace with AI helping both sides: vendors optimizing their presence, customers finding the right fit through natural language. The vision needed three AI features working reliably in production: a search engine that understood budget and intent, a profile copilot with accurate and scoped recommendations, and a backend AI layer that returned consistent, structured output every time. If the AI responses weren't clean JSON, the frontend broke, every time.

Key Challenges
  • AI responses returned unstructured text instead of consistent JSON
  • Natural language search misread budget signals
  • The vendor copilot needed guardrails against bad suggestions
  • Default rendering produced pages search engines couldn't index

Our Approach

We solved the AI reliability problem first, then built everything on top of it.

01
Structured response enforcement
Built a layer that validates, parses and handles edge cases in AI output before anything reaches the UI. Without it, the entire AI feature set would have been unusable in production.
02
Budget-aware natural language search
Iterated on prompt engineering and added explicit numeric detection, so a query like "outdoor wedding under $5,000" reliably treats the figure as a budget constraint and returns correctly filtered vendors.
03
A copilot with guardrails
Built the vendor profile copilot to recommend descriptions, spot missing sections and benchmark against similar profiles, with guardrails against bad suggestions and scope restriction to platform-relevant context only.
04
SEO and speed before launch
Restructured the Next.js frontend to server-side rendering so pages were indexable from day one, added a blog module and an invoice module, and used Redis caching with Next.js image optimization for fast vendor profiles.
Outcome

AI that's reliable in production, not just impressive in demos

Malformed AI output was breaking the frontend, the search was misreading budgets, and the copilot had no guardrails. None of it was visible to end users, but all of it would have made the product unusable at launch. We enforced structure, engineered the prompts, added guardrails and restricted scope, because when AI is the core experience, unreliable AI is a broken product. The engagement came through a referral, and the AI architecture decisions were led entirely by XLORIT.

Key Outcomes
  • 0 → fully shipped marketplace, admin panel, AI search, AI copilot and invoicing
  • Structured JSON enforced: no malformed outputs reaching the frontend
  • Budget constraints reliably interpreted across all query formats
  • Copilot guardrails block bad suggestions before they reach vendors
  • Fully server-side rendered and indexable from day one
  • 20+ vendors onboarded during the initial rollout

We were an early-stage startup with a big idea and not much room for mistakes. The team took us from nothing to a live marketplace with AI search and a vendor copilot, and they were honest with us the whole way about what would and wouldn't work.
